including retinitis pigmentosa and age-related macular degeneration if the clinical trial succeeds.The Federal Government on Tuesday announced a $42 million grant to Bionic Vision Australia to develop the bionic eye.The bionic eye is a small video camera, fixed to a patient's glasses, that will capture images and translate them into electrical pulses that stimulate electrodes attached to the patient's retina. Eye and Ear chief executive Ann Clark said she was delighted the technology would be trialled in Victoria. "The development of this technology will allow patients to benefit from clinical trials, which are planned in the next two years,'' she said. (Lees meer...)
